You may be wondering why NordVPN is number two on this list, underneath a VPN you may have never even heard of before. Just because it’s practically a household name doesn’t make it the best, however, its quality is undebatable. With some of the best speeds on the market, an amazingly designed app, every feature you could possibly want from a VPN, and a layer of near-impenetrable privacy, NordVPN’s service lives up to its bold claims. On top of its standard features, it also sports additional Chrome-specific features, such as an extension to automatically block WebRTC, a protocol with the ability to leak your IP to unsafe sites, and CyberSec, which blocks ads and warns you of suspicious websites.

And its price is relatively affordable for the first plan. Unfortunately, after your first plan expires, all subsequent plans after that are practically doubled in price, quickly making NordVPN one of the most expensive services on the market. This deceptively high price tag may be enough to turn many potential customers away. If that doesn’t scare you off, know that NordVPN truly is one of, if not, the highest quality VPN available.

The other top dog on this list is ExpressVPN. ExpressVPN offers such an incredible amount of quality that it’s able to get away with charging one of the highest prices of any VPN. That said, with that pricey plan, you get some of the fastest speeds we’ve seen in testing (5%-10% loss of original speed on average), especially with Chrome, excellent privacy, great connection to thousands of servers, and plenty of useful additional features.

If the nearly $100 price isn’t a concern for you, consider getting ExpressVPN. We can’t recommend its quality enough if you don’t mind shelling out the cash for the best quality you can find on the market.

Looking for a solid budget option? Private Internet Access is a worthy contender. For less than $40 a year, you can have some excellent speeds (average 25% drop from original download speed), reliable connections to servers in over 75 countries, up to ten simultaneous connections, and additional features such as a built-in killswitch.

Unfortunately, their live support is not available 24/7, and it took a while to respond to some of our issues. The initial setup can take a bit, meaning it might take some time from the moment you sign up before you’re able to start browsing safely with PIA. However, if you’ve got the patience for it, the features, quality, excellent price, and Chrome-specific features such as WebRTC blocking and website whitelisting, all make Private Internet Access a service well worth its weight.

Willing to spend a bit more? On the higher end of our budget options is Surfshark. Surfshark offers a premium VPN’s quality at a very reasonable price. In testing, Surfshark’s speeds were stable and smooth, with impressive connection times to various servers.

You can have up to ten simultaneous connections on a single account, enjoy airtight security, and use the convenient and secure Chrome-specific extension, all for under $60 annually. While it’s not the cheapest option of our budget choices, it definitely might just offer some of the best quality for one.

IPVanish is simple and easy to get behind. Want quick speeds, good, optimized software, and a reliable layer of privacy that’s easy to set up? IPVanish is great for that. While their live chat isn’t 24/7, they were swift and responsive with any problems we gave them and made the process of setting this VPN up even easier. The software itself is a little cluttered, but it keeps all of the additional features that are offered on display helpfully.

The speeds are solid (about 40% drop from original speed), connections are stable, and if all else fails, it comes with a built-in killswitch just in case. It also runs beautifully with Chrome, choking with a well-optimized Chrome extension specifically. The only drawback is the price. A little under $90 might be a bit too much for some to pay just for a convenient, speedy VPN. If you’ve got the money to spare, IPVanish is a service that won’t waste your time, and will give you a great VPN experience.

Back into our budget options, VyprVPN might just be the sweetest deal of all. Unfortunately, it doesn’t boast the most consistently fast speeds, its software is a bit on the simple side, and it doesn’t offer a ton of additional features, neither for Chrome users nor any other platforms. However, it’s a reliable VPN service that’s slowly making a name for itself with good quality at an almost unbeatable price.

It’ll cost you $45 for a yearly package, plus you get an additional six months for free. Or, for $15 extra, you can get three years for an incredible total price of $60. We have yet to find any other service with quality on par to VyprVPN with a price plan anything close to that, especially for Chrome users. If you’re looking for a layer of security at a very reliable cost that runs wonderfully on Chrome devices, VyprVPN is hard to ignore.

Fast, reliable, and optimized. Hotspot Shield is a VPN you can leave running with minimal impact on your device. For Chrome users, this is great. Speed is a must, and this VPN offers it in abundance. Connect to thousands of networks in over 80 countries, and enjoy an excellent service well-known for its brilliant protection. However, the downside is, of course, the price tag.

This level of quality doesn’t come cheap, and Hotspot Shield is no exception. If an annual price of $95.88 isn’t enough to turn you away, it’s an excellent choice for a versatile, all-purpose VPN provider.

With an annual plan under $50, you get some solid, reliable speeds, great security, and servers covering over 60 countries.

The live chat support isn’t 24/7 and took some time responding to the issues we presented to them, but other than that, PrivateVPN is an excellent choice for a simple VPN to get the job done at a reasonable price. In testing, we found that their Chrome software ran smoothly and had no issues whatsoever, making for a pleasant experience for the provider’s Chromebook user base.

Another option for a simple VPN is our last on the list, StrongVPN. Having made a bit of a name for itself recently, StrongVPN comes in with impressive speeds (average of 20-30% drop from original speed), a very stable connection to servers in over 30 countries, and up to 12 simultaneous connections per account.

Their support chat was extremely helpful, and the easy-to-use software was set up in no time at all, allowing us to browse safely with StrongVPN’s protection within a matter of minutes. The price is reasonable, the quality is great, and the service as a whole is quick and easy to use.
